I was recently in NYC visiting friends and family and doing some voiceover demo production work, and because I have friends in the industry there I also spent some time in the waiting areas of places like www.actorsconnection.com and www.oneononenyc.com. I found a new appreciation for the actor. The waiting, sitting, shifting, waiting actor. As someone who has always been on the other side of that “wait” and never really thought about it, I really identified this time with the actor. The struggle, the waiting, the trying-really-hard and leaving the decision in someone else’s hands……wow. Actors are made with some of the toughest materials on earth: patience, inspiration, creativity, endurance, perseverance, and unwavering conviction. My only point for this entire blog is to say thank you to ALL of you for those amazing traits that you possess; traits that allow the world to shine a little brighter and with a bit more color. We producers, directors, coaches, agents, writers, etc. could not do what we do without you – and yet you have it harder than anyone else in the business. Always striving to be the best you can be in spite of uncertainty and rejection, always giving us more and more of you. Thank you!! I would not be able to sit in that waiting room for more than a minute before the impatience and frustration and self-righteousness (and ultimately self-doubt) crept in. It is truly an amazing leap of spiritual and mental faith in yourself and others that keeps you from giving up. Please keep on keepin’ on because the world is gray without you.
Thank you Actors (Voiceover or Otherwise!)
