\u201cFake it till you make it.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m a fan of clich\u00e9s like this because they serve a purpose.\u00a0 As long as your journey to your goals doesn\u2019t trample on anyone else, do whatever works.\u00a0 In the case of animation voiceover \u2013 perhaps \u201cfaking it\u201d can translate to \u201ccopying it\u201d till you make it.\u00a0 Copying another\u2019s voice till you find your own.\u00a0 Many of the very best people in their fields today went through some type of schooling, and that entailed studying and often mimicking those that were already accomplished in the field.\u00a0 I am sure that Steven Spielberg, Toni Morrison, and Marc Chagall spent some time studying their \u201cidols\u201d or learning how others were excelling at their craft first before they rose to the top themselves.\u00a0 Education in your field, even in the arts, will always help \u2013 don\u2019t think that the work of others will dampen your own \u201cvoice.\u201d\u00a0 Your voice, your own powerful sense of self and the ultimate expression of it can never be squashed just by hearing others first. \u00a0Your voice will always find its way through, as the tiniest of shoots in spring find their way up through countless layers of dirt, rock, leaves, and other fallen gifts from autumn and winter.\u00a0 YOU will emerge.\u00a0 But first you must learn.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oh yes, I had almost forgotten about the \u201ccheating\u201d part of the title.\u00a0 Try stuffing your mouth with bread and reading a voiceover script.\u00a0 Try reading it with some water in your mouth.\u00a0 Try reading it while talking out of the side of your mouth the whole time.\u00a0 Read it once REALLY sweetly.\u00a0 Then really angry.\u00a0 Then really inspiring\u2026.and so on and so forth.\u00a0 You won\u2019t know what is IN you until you explore it.\u00a0 There\u2019s no safer way to really explore your range, your voices, your potential \u2013 than OUTSIDE of the voiceover audition process \u2013 so do it with abandon.\u00a0 There are no consequences outside of you holding back what should be let out, what will ultimately make your voice unique.\u00a0 Listen to <\/span><\/span><\/span>Marcia Savella\u2019s voiceover animation demo<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> for inspiration, or to <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bill Lobley\u2019s character voices<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>\u00a0 Then listen to your inner voice(s).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
