{"id":52,"date":"2013-01-25T03:43:25","date_gmt":"2013-01-25T03:43:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.voiceovergurus.com\/guru_blog\/?p=52"},"modified":"2013-07-24T22:22:20","modified_gmt":"2013-07-24T22:22:20","slug":"voiceover-tips-via-big-picturelittle-picture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voiceovergurus.com\/guru_blog\/voiceover-tips-via-big-picturelittle-picture\/","title":{"rendered":"Voiceover Tips via Big Picture\/Little Picture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <span style=\"font-family: ArialMT, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Here&#8217;s a <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.voiceovergurus.com\/contact_us.html\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">voiceover tip<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: ArialMT, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> you probably haven&#8217;t heard lately &#8211; the concept of voiceover scripts being dissected in two completely different ways.\u00a0 The first way is via the Big Picture.\u00a0 You assess the overall mood of the script and the vibe the writer seemed to infect it with and move on accordingly.\u00a0 The second way is via the Little Picture.\u00a0 You look at the specific words that seem to need &#8220;massaging&#8221;, that seem to further your &#8220;point&#8221;, and you make sure to emphasize them.\u00a0 Voiceover technique in a nutshell.\u00a0 To examine it further and make use out of it on a practical level, we are going to need more than a nutshell.\u2028\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 With both of these voice over techniques you are really trying to tell them writer in different ways that you &#8220;get him.&#8221;\u00a0 It is usually the writer who judges the casting, maybe the producer, but mostly the writer.\u00a0 So what&#8217;s your goal?\u00a0 Do what the writer wants.\u00a0 Out loud.\u00a0 But first you must figure out what that is.\u00a0 Use the word choices, the style, his structure of the whole thing, the timing\/pace.\u00a0 It always comes back to this:\u00a0 show the writer that you get what he is trying to do with the script; be the outside voice that perfectly expresses the copywriter&#8217;s inside voice, and WIN THE JOB.\u2028\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Big Picture:\u00a0 Here you are starting with the specs hopefully.\u00a0 Specs are the &#8220;specifications&#8221; given to you along with the script that illustrate how they want the script to sound.\u00a0 Example:\u00a0 Male, 30&#8217;s &#8211; 40&#8217;s, conversational, witty, confident.\u00a0 Those specs are the foundation for you to achieve and master your big picture goal.\u00a0 When you get specs, look at the script and spot where and why those specs make sense.\u00a0 Are there specific words that reflect it perfectly?\u00a0 Can you add your own overall impression to those specs and give it a unique spin with compromising the authenticity?\u00a0 Either way, this is the big picture.
