{"id":300,"date":"2013-10-07T17:02:35","date_gmt":"2013-10-07T17:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.voiceovergurus.com\/guru_blog\/?p=300"},"modified":"2013-10-07T17:02:35","modified_gmt":"2013-10-07T17:02:35","slug":"voiceover-script-success-series-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/voiceovergurus.com\/guru_blog\/voiceover-script-success-series-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Voiceover Script Success Series #5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We continue with the ever-critical work of understanding the script.\u00a0 I have switched it up this time to work with a corporate narration voice over, as many of you know that corporate narration is a fruitful niche in the voiceover market.\u00a0 Understanding corporate narration scripts is often times even more important that the work of analyzing commercial scripts, as the corporate spots can often be a bit more humorless, a little less \u201cemotional\u201d, a lot drier.\u00a0 More than ever, you need to not fall into the pit with that energy, but find a way to lift it up and give it life, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of the subject matter and it\u2019s tone.\u00a0 Corporate narration does NOT have to be delivered completely \u201cprofessionally\u201d and \u201cpolished.\u201d\u00a0 As we all know, the best public speakers out there skillfully combine some very important qualities: compelling and interesting, intelligent, and most importantly \u2013 a sense of speaking \u201coff the cuff\u201d and \u201cunrehearsed.\u201d\u00a0 Corporate narration CAN be conversational.\u00a0 Conversational does not need to mean unintelligent.\u00a0 Let\u2019s look at this IBM SPOT:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>IBM has earned a reputation for honest, ethical dealing in all aspects of its business. As a government contractor, the Systems Integration Division is dedicated to maintaining a similar reputation in the Federal procurement environment. The basis of this reputation is IBM\u2019s conviction that ethical behavior and competitiveness are not mutually exclusive. What\u2019s more, IBM has shown that a corporation can adhere to a set of consistent principles and still be flexible enough to meet changing business conditions. In fulfilling our goal of serving the national interest by offering equipment and services to the Federal government&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ok, there\u2019s plenty of good stuff to chew on from the get go.\u00a0 IBM is starting off by making it clear that they position themselves as honest and ethical.\u00a0 For drama, you could even choose to drive the point home with the ALL (\u2026aspects of it\u2019s business.)\u00a0 On the second sentence they make it clear that they maintain this integrity even in their government contracts.\u00a0 You would want SIMILAR to drive that point home and well as perhaps introduce the word FEDERAL to point to this next level of service where they stay consistent in their level of service.\u00a0 Perhaps at the heart of all this is their next message, a summary:\u00a0 ETHICAL BEHAVIOR and COMPETITIVENESS are NOT mutually exclusive.\u00a0 They enhance this flattery by adding that they are able to maintain CONSISTENT PRINCIPLES while still demonstrating FLEXIBLE attitudes toward CHANGE.\u00a0 More drama can be created by a focus on the word STILL.\u00a0 The last sentence is cut off and I\u2019m choosing to take a break and \u2013 be done J\u00a0 But\u2026.one last note.\u00a0 As always, this is a subjective task.\u00a0 You may find other words that seem important and seem to demand emphasis.\u00a0 I just leave you with this \u2013 the more words you punch, the less POW the others will have.\u00a0 As they often say, \u201cless is more.\u201d\u00a0 Find what\u2019s important to YOU, and let that, and only that, shine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>IBM has earned a reputation for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">honest, ethical<\/span> dealing in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">all<\/span> aspects of its business.
