We\u2019re now going to get even more serious with our voiceover script analysis.\u00a0 Last week I showed you original copy, followed by that copy featuring underlined points on each line, highlighting where the emphasis should be and thus making you sound more connected to your message.\u00a0 Nothing sounds more disconnected than a flat read.\u00a0 Underlining helps eliminate that.\u00a0 Despite the painfully elementary last line, \u201cDrive one.\u201d I have chosen this Ford Taurus spot to work with, as it is chock full of places to dissect:<\/p>\n
There are engines and then there\u2019s the twin turbo-charging, 365<\/p>\n
horse power generating, eco-boost engine in the all new Ford Taurus<\/p>\n
Show that has the thirst of a V6 with the thrust of a V8.<\/p>\n
We speak car.\u00a0 We speak innovation.<\/p>\n

OK, first line.\u00a0 Let\u2019s start with the missing comma after the first three words.\u00a0 You need that slight separation to make sense out of the fact that they\u2019re making a connection between one kind of engine, and another.\u00a0 So, yeah, sometimes you must play editor.\u00a0 Make sure you have a really strong feeling about it, and otherwise, leave it alone.\u00a0 So, now you have a mental comma after \u201cThere are engines\u201d.\u00a0 Stress the word \u201cengines\u201d to make it clear this is the subject matter.\u00a0 The pause\/comma will reinforce that.\u00a0 So now, what kind of engine are you really trying to share info about?\u00a0 Twin turbo-charging, 365 horsepower generating, eco-boost\u2026.Underline those words that make THIS engine shine.\u00a0 Do not underline \u201cengine\u201d after that.\u00a0 You were just on topic about engines so no need to stress that idea.\u00a0 Now, the product doesn\u2019t always necessarily get a strong punch like you\u2019d think, but in this case it works.\u00a0 It\u2019s the owner of this fabulous engine.\u00a0 Lastly in this sentence (are you out of breath yet??!!) is the emphasis on thirst\/v6 and thrust\/v8.\u00a0 It\u2019s last two special selling points.\u00a0 After that you have two lines that share the same word: speak.\u00a0 You almost always emphasize the words around a repeated word that signify a distinction, as opposed to emphasizing the repeated word.\u00a0 That would be overkill.\u00a0 The word \u201cspeak\u201d emphasizes itself by the nature of its own repetition.\u00a0 So what\u2019s the focus on?\u00a0 \u201ccar\u201d and \u201cinnovation\u201d obviously.\u00a0 The two things they \u201cspeak\u201d of expertly.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to skip the last line(s) because I\u2019m getting a little cringe-y.\u00a0 Behold your new script:<\/p>\n
