<i>\u00a0I<\/i> want more Regal Vegan <i>Faux Gras<\/i> spread on a nice doughy loaf of ciabatta, more trips to Europe, more sunshine (I live in Portland, Oregon now), but that\u2019s another story.\u00a0\u00a0 You want more voice over auditions.\u00a0 If you are at this stage, the first thing you have to assess before you can find the right answer \u00a0is where you are located and thus what type of voice over \u201cuniverse\u201d you are in.<\/div>\n<div>You might live in New York City or Los Angeles, where you have a shot at actual live human representation in the form of a voice over agent.\u00a0 If you live in a city where this is the case, your marketing strategy is clear cut.\u00a0 Get heard by the people in your city.\u00a0 Agents and Casting Directors can hear you via the MP3 voice over demo you send them.\u00a0 They can see you in that off-off Broadway showcase.\u00a0 They can meet you, live, in person!, at a meet and greet night at an education center that hosts these kinds of events.\u00a0 Dig deeper and you can find many ways to get them to pay attention to you.\u00a0 Getting them to hear you and like you and offer you a shot at a voice over audition is the first step.\u00a0 We\u2019ll get to the second step in a minute, but let\u2019s first address those of you living in Tinytown, USA.<\/div>\n<div>If you live in a place where there\u2019s little to no \u201clive\u201d voice over community, you will be heading directly to your computer and typing in addresses such as voices.com or voice123.com.\u00a0 You will act as your own agent and submit your own recordings for auditions that are posted on these sites.\u00a0 It\u2019s pretty simple when you\u2019re living in Tinytown.<\/div>\n<div>Now \u2013 you\u2019ve got the audition, hopefully.\u00a0 How do you get from the audition to BOOKING THE JOB?\u00a0 Be better.\u00a0 Be more interesting.\u00a0 Be more interesting especially at the beginning.\u00a0 Many many people in this business, and even more so in this next ADD generation, lose their interest quickly.\u00a0 I can\u2019t tell you how many times I had clients ask me to play back the auditions I had cast and then said the words \u201cskip to the next one\u201d before the actor had finished his second sentence.\u00a0 They were busy!\u00a0 Busy checking out the sushi menu (we were paying!) or texting their girlfriends.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t intrigue them, the \u201cnext\u201d is ready and waiting to slide off their tongue.\u00a0 So think of that first line as your hook.\u00a0 Hook and reel them in.\u00a0 Remember that when you are doing this, your number one philosophy should not be compromised \u2013 and that is to BE AUTHENTIC.\u00a0 Your place of sounding interesting still needs to make sense.\u00a0 This comes from understanding the text.\u00a0 What is the writer truly saying?\u00a0 What is the point he is making?\u00a0 Understand this, and find a way to make these points intriguing, captivating, compelling \u2013 and believable.<\/div>\n<div>Yes, there are tons more techniques for booking the job.\u00a0 I will give them to you in time.\u00a0 But heck, this is only a little blog entry, and my fingers are tired.\u00a0 Now go practice.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s usually the biggest question in a voice over artist\u2019s mind?\u00a0 That\u2019s right \u2013 \u201cHow do I book more voice over auditions?\u201d\u00a0 Of course it is.\u00a0 It\u2019s the human condition.\u00a0 More, more, more!
