Voiceover technique comes in many shapes and forms.\u00a0 Use your inflection to emphasize a point or to sound more upbeat or more commanding, underline words that help you to connect to the points you are making, define who you are talking to, etc.\u00a0 Here\u2019s another strategy:\u00a0 take a break.\u00a0 Ever wonder why some of the best actors out there also seem to have these fabulous and dramatic lives?\u00a0 Well mostly because they crave that, but really, it fuels their creative force.\u00a0 Being a great actor (in any medium) involves leading a dynamic life.\u00a0 If you stay in the classroom and learn all these voice over techniques, you are ahead of the game for sure\u2026..but what will you offer besides \u201ctechnique\u201d being delivered through an empty shell of a person.\u00a0 I go through this all the time as a creative being.\u00a0 I find myself not having anything \u201cnew\u201d to offer.\u00a0 This is when I know it is time to replenish the well.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 As you already know, The Artists Way<\/a> can help guide you through exactly this process.\u00a0 But if you want the Cliffs Notes, here they are.\u00a0\u00a0 Get out of the booth.\u00a0 Stop reading and practicing voiceover copy.\u00a0 Do something you haven\u2019t ever done before.\u00a0 Do something you know will get you thinking:\u00a0 go to a museum, take a class in a new subject, start or join a book club.\u00a0 Go for a walk, alone, and on a different route than you have ever taken before.\u00a0 The point is to \u201creplenish the well.\u201d\u00a0 These things provide you with the dynamic quality that most artists already have, and all children have, for that matter:\u00a0 a sense of wonder, learning, experiencing something for the first time.\u00a0 When you do this, you now have something to offer to that voiceover script: a fresh perspective.\u00a0 You will now read it with much more than a \u201creading the words clearly and precisely\u201d sound.\u00a0 You will now sound more \u201chuman\u201d and your reads will hopefully convey some of that new life experience that has graced your being with it\u2019s creative force.\u00a0 So I give you permission to stop practicing voiceover copy for a week, a month, however long you need to have fun and experience the wonder of life outside your comfort zone!<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
