Give Important Words Meaning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beginners often try to create interest by emphasizing lots of individual words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result can sound strangely bouncy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cOur NEW software makes it EASIER for TEAMS to COLLABORATE.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The problem isn\u2019t a lack of energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a lack of hierarchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In real conversation, we naturally know which ideas matter most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur new software makes it easier for teams to collaborate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But perhaps the important idea is <em>easier<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or maybe the listener has heard dozens of software pitches, so the important idea is <em>our new software<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or perhaps you\u2019re contrasting collaboration with the old system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The actor\u2019s job is to identify the <strong>thought that matters most<\/strong> and let everything else support it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is often called <strong>vocal emphasis<\/strong>, but the acting decision comes first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t emphasize a word because it seems important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emphasize it because <strong>you mean it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. Understand What\u2019s Happening Beneath the Words<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Great voice actors don\u2019t just ask what the script says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They ask what is happening underneath it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine an audiobook character says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m fine. Really.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those two words can mean dozens of different things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They could mean:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I\u2019m genuinely fine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m annoyed that you asked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m trying not to cry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m lying.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m embarrassed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m angry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I\u2019m attempting to reassure you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I desperately want you to believe me.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The text doesn\u2019t tell you everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You have to make an acting choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is why simply having a pleasant or beautiful voice isn\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A beautiful voice saying nothing isn\u2019t particularly interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A completely ordinary voice communicating a real thought can be mesmerizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6. Let Your Voice Respond to the Meaning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s another secret:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You don\u2019t need to manufacture emotion with your voice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you genuinely imagine the situation, your voice will often respond naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Think about telling someone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have some really good news.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t have to consciously add \u201chappy voice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You know what good news feels like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your breathing changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your facial expression changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your energy changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your voice follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why acting training can be so valuable for voice actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal isn\u2019t to learn dozens of artificial \u201cvoice-over voices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s to become better at creating a believable internal experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>9. Stop Trying to \u201cSound Like a Voice Actor\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may be the most important practical advice of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re trying to sound like a voice actor, you\u2019re probably going to sound like someone <strong>performing <\/strong>voice-over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead, try to sound like yourself having a genuine experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Don\u2019t ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHow should a voice actor say this?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIf I were actually saying this to someone, what would I mean?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That question takes you out of performance mode and puts you into communication mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And communication is the heart of voice acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>So, Does Your Voice Matter?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A voice actor needs to develop good vocal technique, pronunciation, breath control, microphone technique, articulation, and audio skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your voice also has qualities that can make you naturally suited to certain kinds of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But none of those things automatically make you a compelling actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A technically perfect recording can still be lifeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A completely ordinary voice can be incredibly engaging when the person behind it knows how to communicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s why I like to think of voice-over success as <strong>99% acting and 1% the actual quality of your voice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The percentage isn\u2019t meant to be a scientific measurement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a way of making a point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Your voice is the instrument. Acting is what you do with it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you\u2019re worried that you don\u2019t have a \u201cvoice actor voice,\u201d that\u2019s actually good news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need to be born with the perfect voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to learn how to use the voice you already have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Five Questions to Ask Before Every Voiceover<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before you record any script, take a moment to answer these five questions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. What am I thinking?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Find the thought behind the words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. What matters most?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Identify the key idea rather than emphasizing every important-looking word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. What changes?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Look for shifts in thought, emotion, information, or intention as the script progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you can answer those questions, you have already done a significant amount of your acting work before you ever press the record button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Real Secret to Voice Acting Success<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are plenty of things aspiring voice actors are told they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A recording space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A demo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An online casting profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Auditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yes, those things can all matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But underneath all of them is something much more fundamental:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can you make someone believe you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you make them believe you\u2019re talking to them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you make them believe you care about what you\u2019re saying?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you make them believe the character?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you make them believe the information matters?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can you make them forget that they\u2019re listening to someone standing in front of a microphone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s acting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that\u2019s what turns a voice recording into a performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if you\u2019ve been worrying that your voice isn\u2019t special enough for voice acting, take a breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need a \u201cperfect\u201d voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You need to become a better actor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the most successful voice actors aren\u2019t necessarily the people with the most beautiful, unusual, or impressive voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re the people who know how to take words on a page and make them sound like <strong>something they genuinely mean.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THAT is the real secret to voice acting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The #1 secret to voice acting success no one reveals!
